Patriots announce release of Martellus Bennett, Bernard Reedy

Patriots backup wide receiver Bernard Reedy said at the Super Bowl he would return to his $11-an-hour job driving a van for people with disabilities. He will have to find a new day job in the fall, though.

The Vikings turned that No. 7 pick into South Carolina wide receiver Troy Williamson, who caught only 79 passes and scored three touchdowns in three seasons with the team, so this aspect of the trade wasn’t the issue. For that matter, neither was trading Harris, who only played 39 games and tallied 116 combined tackles with Minnesota.

Instead, it was the fact that the Raiders had acquired a game-changing player in Moss, who often times seemed to be uninterested on the field while his effort over 29 games in Oakland was constantly questioned. His tenure with the Silver and Black, which featured 102 receptions (on 219 targets) for 1,558 yards and 11 touchdowns in two seasons, ended with the superstar being shipped to the New England Patriots for a fourth-round pick.

Sherman ed only nine games last season before tearing his right Achilles. Carroll said last week Sherman also underwent surgery to clean up his left Achilles.

“We moved very quickly to Plan B,” Johnson said, per the New York Daily News . “It’s almost a shame to call it Plan B, because it’s shaping up as something pretty magnificent . I’m pretty excited about it. We did so swiftly. It doesn’t hurt it all that we now have an awful lot of money that we were thinking we might be sending out the door to one player. Now [we] have that back with us and we can spread that out over a lot of other players over the next few years.”

The popular consensus around this year’s NFL draft is that there is a group of four quarterbacks that are a cut above the rest of the class. (Along with Sam Darnold , Josh Rosen , Josh Allen , and Baker Mayfield , some include Lamar Jackson but others do not.) By moving up from No. 6 to No. 3, the Jets guaranteed that they can land at least one of those players.jets_261
