Why Yankees’ Gleyber Torres will hit ninth all Subway Series

Expect to see more of the Yankees ‘ potential Rookie of the Year candidate at the bottom of their order.

Before the Yankees beat the Mets, 4-1, at Citi Field in Game 1 of this year’s Subway Series on Friady, manager Aaron Boone said he figures second baseman Gleyber Torres will hit No. 9 for the rest of the time they’re in Queens.

I always tell guys, you don’t necessarily need to have sight to have vision. For me, I have this vision of us being the best, of us winning championships. Now, that’s me saying that. The minute you put that out in the air… you’ve got to move toward that. You have to work your tail off. The Cardinals have a new right side of the line with right guard Justin Pugh and right tackle Andre Smith, while center A.Q. Shipley, left guard Mike Iupati and left tackle D.J. Humphries remain. If that group really can jell well enough to be the best line in the NFL, that would dramatically change the fortunes of a team that has missed the playoffs two straight years.

Uh, people also used to think the Sun revolved around Earth and leeches were an effective medical treatment too.

Look, The Times interview is pretty interesting and about a lot more than the concept of a flat Earth. And the possibility this is an elaborate troll to get people to write internet stories still remains. But if that was the case, wouldn’t Irving be at the point where he needs to let the world in on the joke? You can only be the subject of jokes and ridicule for something you know is preposterous for so long. And when confronted with a tangible consequence of his stupid comments – a teacher who can’t properly teach their students because they are taken by the nonsensical ramblings of LeBron James’ old sidekick – there’s no backing down. Which is kind of stunning.

Matt Duffy (R), 22 percent, Tampa Bay Rays vs. New York Yankees (LHP CC Sabathia): While pitching well overall, Sabathia is still vulnerable to righty swingers. Duffy has been smoking, posting a 1.008 OPS the past two weeks.
